Renovations & Enhancements

We are excited to share the many enhancements and new developments of the Ojo Caliente Mineral Springs Resort & Spa facility. Our goal is to improve the Ojo experience while honoring its essence, charm and history; with the ongoing goal of stewardship for sustainability.

Ojo has been undergoing improvements continually over the past 12 years on virtually every level. We believe these enhancements have contributed dramatically to improving the Ojo guest experience, while remaining true to the unique character and essence of this special place. We schedule these projects during our less busy times, and do our absolute best to coordinate them to minimize the impact on both our staff and our guests.

Our mission is to provide genuinely gracious and accommodating hospitality to all of our guests at all times. We consider ourselves stewards and ambassadors of this legendary oasis. We are dedicated to preserving, honoring and enriching all that is special about Ojo Caliente Mineral Springs while sharing it will all who seek it.

WINTER IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS: Expected completion: May/June 2013

UPGRADES TO OUR HISTORIC BATHHOUSE

This project begins our attention to needed areas of improvement, and includes an extensive remodel and enhancement of the Men’s Changing Areas.

CREATION OF A NEW MUD AREA

Our plan is to create a new Mud Area in front of the Main Bathhouse near the Large Pool, which we hope will be open year round. Our goal is to heat the mud geothermally, which will make the clay more soothing to the skin. The new location will also receive more sun exposure, allowing our special blend of clay (once applied to the skin) to dry better with natural radiant heat. This area will also become part of a new social environment in the Springs which will feature a more relaxed noise policy while still maintaining a tranquil atmosphere for everyone to enjoy.

CREATION OF A NEW LITHIA POOL

Since our historic Lithia Pump stopped functioning in 2011, we’ve received overwhelming feedback from our guests encouraging us to bring this sacred water back into use. To that end, we will be converting the existing Mud Pool into a Lithia Pool enhanced with patio ramadas, additional hammocks and expanded seating.

NEW RELAXED, SOCIAL ENVIRONMENT IN THE SPRINGS AND OJO WHISPER ZONE

We are dedicated to preserving the integrity of the Ojo experience by maintaining the tranquility and serenity that has drawn people here for thousands of years. In an effort to accommodate our guests who are inclined to be more social within our calm environment, we plan to provide a separate area with a more relaxed noise policy around the Large Pool and new Mud Area. This area will include new landscaping which will aid in containing the sound in this area. The established Whisper Zone will continue to be maintained throughout the remainder of the Springs and Spa area for our guests who prefer to be undisturbed in the relaxing, peaceful and quiet setting that this sacred place is known to provide. The Whisper Zone includes the Iron and Soda Pools, Cliffside Pools, new Lithia Pool, Private Outdoor Pools and the Kiva Pool available to guests lodging in our suites.

MAIN BATHHOUSE REMODEL

include new designated men’s and women’s spa guest changing facilities with a cozy waiting area, and other attractive amenities. Additionally, there will be a new steam room and sauna accessible from the Cliffiside area available for all guests. Upgrades to our spa therapy rooms will result in 12 perfectly appointed and aesthetically pleasing treatment rooms.

These enhancements will allow us to continue to provide the unique healing experience that Ojo is known for, while improving our ability to better meet the expectations of the modern spa-goer.

Wine Bar & Lounge
Adjacent to the Artesian Restaurant located in the Historic Hotel is the new Wine Bar & Lounge. It provides a charming and relaxed environment serving a fine selection of local and imported wine and beer and enticing Bar Menu.

Spa Entrance & Gift Shop
The new entrance to our healing waters offers our guests an expansive front desk and lobby, women’s changing room, gift shop featuring SUNDÃRI and Zents products, and 4 new spa treatment rooms.

Lodging Enhancements
• 12 Cliffside and Pueblo Suites: Overlooking a beautiful plaza, are two new traditional, pueblo-style buildings housing 12 enchanting suites. Each suite is 500 sf with beautiful wax plaster finishes, a kiva fireplace, and viga ceilings. The 6 Cliffside Suites have their own private, outdoor, 2-person soaking tub. The 6 Pueblo Suites have a private patio overlooking an enchanting courtyard.

• 11 Plaza Suites: Replacing the circa 1930s South Cottages are now 11 Plaza Cottages that were completed in 2008. Adjacent to the new Pueblo Suites, these cottages overlook the beautiful plaza and are decorated with lovely New Mexican furnishings plus a kitchenette that includes a small refrigerator and microwave.

• 8 Restored North Cottages: In 2006, we finished the complete restoration of the North Cottages. Most notably, each has a spacious plaster and tile shower, as well as hardwood floors, and fun, eclectic furnishings and finishes. 

New Kiva Pool
Plaza, Pueblo and Cliffside Suite guests have exclusive access to a newly built Kiva Pool centered in the courtyard between these rooms

Private Outdoor Pools
We’ve created the perfect environment for those yearning to bathe under big blue skies by day, or on a stunning starlit night. Escape to one of our three secluded and private outdoor pools complete with kiva fireplaces and create your own Ojo experience. Reservations are recommended.

Spa Lounge and Four New Treatment Rooms
Located in the Historic Bathhouse is the new Spa Lounge where guests will relax in a quiet and comfortable setting before being greeted by a massage therapist for their treatment. This building has 4 new and spacious treatment rooms.

New Hiking & Mountain Biking Trails
We’ve recently mapped over 12 miles of single-track mountain biking trails on the mesa top with accompanying trail map. Additionally we’ve created a delightful 2 mile Bosque River Loop that includes a bridge connecting you to the Rio Ojo Caliente and over 1100 acres of lush river landscape. Beginning in Spring 2010, indulge your inner child with a beach cruiser bike ride around the loop.

Waters Shine with New Improvements
We’re proud to announce the completion of our new filtration system utilizing ozone and UV light to maintain the natural integrity of our healing waters without adding any chlorine or other chemicals. Guests can now enjoy new waterfall features, particularly in the Iron and Cliffside pools.

Geothermal Heating & Cooling
As part of our commitment to the environment we have converted all facilities to geothermal heating and cooling. This process is accomplished by harnessing the earth’s energy via our most precious resource: hot water.

Waste Water Treatment Plant
In an effort to recharge the local aquifer with high quality treated water we have created our own on-site wastewater treatment facility. We treat the water before re-injecting it into the aquifer which controls evaporation and groundwater contamination.
